Marvin Language Magnet
Marvin Language Magnet is a unique school. Our magnet is the only LAUSD elementary school with a foreign language program. Beyond California state content standards and district curriculum, students at Marvin Ave. study four different languages in beginning and advanced levels. Students in the magnet not only learn languages but also history, culture, and customs of the countries where the languages are spoken.
We are very proud of our highly motivated students who study language in their early ages as well as their supportive parents who contribute their time to volunteer. Many students in the Magnet study music as well and participate in the Marvin Ave. Orchestra.
Twice a year, the Magnet joins school wide celebrations in performance. Every year students sing in the language they are learning in the Holiday Program. Every June, students perform the traditional dances with music in the International Dance Festival.
Parent Participation
Parents are involved in Marvin Avenue School in many ways. For example, many parents volunteer in the classroom, which is greatly appreciated. Here are a few of the other important ways that parents can get involved.
School Site Council (SSC) - Teacher/parent forum that helps the principal decide on the best use of the school categorical funds.
English Learners Advisory Council (ELAC) - Council meets monthly to advise and provide information to English Learners and parents.
